چکیده

Abstract Introduction Exogenous melatonin has been shown to improve sleep in individuals with disorders, such as insomnia and delayed phase disorder. However, research on the effect of exogenous healthy young adults is limited. Additionally, there some evidence that can negatively affect cognitive processes, long-term memory, working attention. Therefore, we assessed supplementation nocturnal morning cognition undergraduates. Methods In evening, participants (N = 120) completed three tasks: Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT; a measure attention), UNRAVEL (a procedural placekeeping), Paired Associates Learning (PAL) test memory). We then asked take pill under double-blind conditions contained either or placebo. Afterwards, received an 8-hour opportunity monitored polysomnography (PSG). One hour after waking, PAL, UNRAVEL, PVT again. Results compared performance across placebo conditions, evening covariate. Interestingly, had more placekeeping errors than did not PAL performance. found no significant differences between groups any our measures. Conclusion The results suggest negative effects may outweigh benefits for adults, particularly when measured shortly opportunity. Our also factors captured by PSG accurately predict next-day performance, researchers should consider additional factors, concentration, assessing relationship Support (if any) This work was funded Office Naval Research (N00014-20-1-2739).

Early morning melatonin administration impairs psychomotor vigilance.

The acute soporific effect of melatonin in humans has been demonstrated in a range of studies. How alertness and performance are changed after melatonin given in the morning is not yet known. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of nine healthy young men, melatonin was given at 0700 h under controlled conditions of a modified constant routine protocol lasting 56 h (2 days, 3 nights with ...

Dopaminergic therapy has paradoxical effects on cognition in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, with some functions worsened and others improved. The detrimental effects of medication on cognition have be...

Whole Body Vibration Improves Cognition in Healthy Young Adults

This study investigated the acute effects of passive whole body vibration (WBV) on executive functions in healthy young adults. Participants (112 females, 21 males; age: 20.5±2.2 years) underwent six passive WBV sessions (frequency 30 Hz, amplitude approximately 0.5 mm) and six non-vibration control sessions of two minutes each while sitting on a chair mounted on a vibrating platform. A passive...
